Reply with quote | #16 | When I first built the GG I built it using pure silver wire on all the signal paths, but went back to kimber copper because I thought it was too cold sounding. But I made other changes also with bypassing the solen coupling caps with wonder caps and replace that 10ohm input resistor with a wirewound, and the stock pot with an alps blackbeauty, all this helped with giving some life and soul to the preamp. Its not there (for me) yet, but i have gone on to other projects now. I may revisit the GG again some time in the future, but after i finish my dac(twisted pear buffalo 32 bit) and transport mods along with getting my 1964 scott tuner up to snuff. I spend most of my time listening. I have some litz wire from my previous preamp 1985 vintage Melos that had a catastrophic failure, that could go in the GG on at least the phono and dac input. You may want to visit http://mysite.verizon.net/vze8ps8l/ and take a look at my GG |

Hi, I have tried since your post, several times to connect for images you sent of parts of your system.
The answer each time; "server was unable to find..."
We are both busy, so please don't deal with this small matter until you are able, time wise.
As always I am eager for info re; audio, old, new and , strange, are the key words here, as long as the results sound good.
Do you think, or know, that a wire wound 10-ohm will sound better? If yes, why?
The other "exotica" you mentioned I have read about before on several forums. 1-Wondercaps. 2-Black beauty.
I have been trying to find out if these are better sounding due to better construction or materials or both. All my searches have not helped in this quest. Do you know?
Thankyou, M.V.
