Having bought a TS Phono stage locally I was wondering if there are any worthwhile upgrades to consider?
I was thinking output caps, nos tubes, better rca connectors anything really.

I've had mine for 13 years, and never felt the slightest itch for improvements. Your turntable and cartridge would be a better bet, ie the differences are so obvious. IMVHO.

I'm with Gary. The "placebo effect" is alive and well in the "high end" audio world. That said, do what makes you feel good, me, I'm leaving mine alone until it breaks, the I'll fix it, it sounds just fine "stock".

I'll be the 4th to confirm...leave it alone. Money will be better spent else where or if it is burning a hole in your pocket sending to my paypal account will have the same effect.

I'm extremely happy with the phono preamp. I'd really leave it alone. You'll be much more likely to benefit by getting a better cartridge.

Even compared to more expensive phono pres than the Densen and Jasmine the incredible openness and dynamics of the TS phono are nothing less than dramatic. If one likes "open" and almost shocking dynamics (in my case with Dynavector, Shelter, SUT)the TS phono is like a drug you can get addicted to. However, I also would recommend to put the psu in a separate housing and even add some filtering (at least if you have very sensitive speakers), change the caps to Mundorf (I use Supreme) and some changes which I have already posted in this forum at other occasions. I also replaced the cap/resistor at the output with a 1uF Mundorf which makes the phono pre sound a tiny bit darker and more realistic in the deepest bass which was the only thing I was really missing with the original circuit. But one needs to be very careful when playing warped records and that the arm/cartridge doesn't produce subsonic frequencies as this will reach your speakers. I never felt the need to try different tubes.

I understand an isolated PSU, but as you know I am also both a Lowther and Klipsch LS user -- and power supply related noise artifacts are non-existent. Amazing performer just as it is, as others have also said.

How does the signal-to-noise- ratio (SNR) of a phono-pre affect audible noise and hum depending on the signal strength of the cartridge and necessary volume position of the preamp? I think some people are ok with the SNR depending on cartridge/speakers while other people need to reduce the hum even more as it is audible. What can we hear from the phono pre if we turn up the volume of the preamp to max with no signal from the cartridge? Only noise or also some hum?

Currently I am testing my take of Bruce's phono amp with very well regulated and physically separate power supplies. With an MC-1 high output MC cartridge mounted on the Micro-Seki CF-1 tone arm of a Rega Planar2 deck as input, and output going into my Masterpiece, there is no detectable hum at full MP gain setting. All that is audible after my 300B PP and Klipsch Heresey III speakers is the 'grass' appropriate to the system bandwidth.
